In the wake of the senseless violence that occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, this month’s What Gives donation will go to the Stoneman Douglas Victims’ Fund.
The fund, which was set up by The Broward County Education Foundation, will be used to provide financial support and relief to the victims of theshooting and their families.
The Broward County Education Foundation will be consulting with The National Center for Victims of Crime in order to determine the best way in which the steering committee can distribute money raised by the fund. While the National Center has extensive knowledge and experience with how best to compensate victims for the loss, the Foundation will also include local leaders and victim representatives to make sure that all sides are represented and their voices are heard in the process.
The fundraising page for the Victims’ Fund is being hosted on GoFundMe, which means that 100% of proceeds will go directly to the fund. Additionally, GoFundMe contributed $50,000 to the fund in order to cover the administrative costs of the committee and the National center, so truly 100% of donations will go to assist the victims and their families.
